PRIVACY POLICY

SMLT ("we", "us", "our") operates the SMLT mobile application and website (thesmlt.com), a food truck discovery platform serving Northern Minnesota. Our mission is to connect food truck enthusiasts with local food truck operators.

Information You Provide

• Account information: Email address, phone number, and name when you create an account.
• Profile information: Notification preferences, followed trucks, and settings.
• User-generated content: Reviews (thumbs up/down ratings), photos you upload of menu items, and search queries.
• Communications: Support tickets and feedback you send us.

Information Collected Automatically

• Location data: Your approximate location when using the map feature, with your permission. We use this to show nearby food trucks and calculate distances.
• Search activity: The searches you run inside the app, used to operate features such as search limits. SMLT does not use third-party analytics and does not track your activity across other companies’ apps or websites.
• Device & diagnostic information: Device type, operating system, app version, and push notification tokens. If the app crashes, a first-party crash report (platform, screen size, app version) is sent to our own backend to help us fix it — not to any third party.

• Provide the service: Show you nearby food trucks, deliver schedule alerts, and enable following trucks.
• Notifications: Send push notifications, emails, and SMS about schedule changes and truck owner messages (based on your preferences).
• Improve the platform: Use first-party crash reports and the feedback you send us to fix bugs and improve features.
• Support truck owners: Provide anonymized, aggregated analytics to truck owners about their profile engagement (view counts, direction taps, follower trends). We never share your personal information with truck owners.
• Safety and security: Detect fraud, enforce our terms, and protect users.

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these cases:

• Service providers: Clerk (authentication), Convex (database and first-party error reporting), Stripe (payments for truck owners), Sendy/AWS SES (email), and Twilio (SMS).
• Truck owners: Only anonymized, aggregated data (total views, follower counts, engagement metrics). Never your name, email, or personal details.
• Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect safety.

• Notification preferences: Control push, email, and SMS notifications in Settings. You can disable any channel at any time.
• Location: You can revoke location permission in your device settings. The app will still work but distance calculations will be unavailable.
• Account deletion: You can delete your account in Settings > Delete Account. This removes all your data, follows, and preferences.
• Data export: Contact us at privacy@thesmlt.com to request a copy of your data.

We retain your account data as long as your account is active. Usage analytics are retained for 12 months in identifiable form, then anonymized. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication (Clerk), and access controls. However, no system is perfectly secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please report it to security@thesmlt.com.

SMLT is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the app or email. Your continued use of SMLT after changes constitutes acceptance.
